kids can eat healthy - easily
A few days ago there was a mighty shitstorm on vodkarellas blog about the simple issue that children should eat healthy, that it is not that hard to feed them healthy food and by not doing that you are practically abusing your child (that’s how V put it, frank and to the point as always!).
The comments on that post were truly something, with one woman especially using the comment section as her own blog (I may not be up to date with the blogging etiquette put I consider that to be rude!) and taking things absolutely personal towards her own special situation. That is always a dumb thing to do, every blog post is generalized, if it wasn’t it would be a scientific study and boring as hell.
So back to the original point of vodkarellas post: children should eat healthy and you as a parent are responsible for providing healthy food regardless of your financial situation!
That last point got people especially worked up.
Here is the thing: Yes, it is hard to buy good food on a budget, believe me, I know. But it is possible! You may have to cut back on other expenses and luxuries but it is possible to provide a healthy meal every day!
When I go through our village I see lots of kids that have every sign of the poorness-diet: they are obese, have bad skin and are always tired. They are raised on fast food, prepackaged microwave meals and candy. It may look cheap to eat like that but it is not! If you spend that fast food money on vegetables and pasta you will get a healthy meal that will fill you plenty without making you fat.
So here is my unwarranted advice how to eat healthy:
Make at least one meal everyday with fresh vegetables that are not overcooked and with just a little fat.
That’s it.
Don’t make a big deal out of it, don’t try to make something fancy. Just get fresh vegetables in your diet, eat that with your children and believe me, things will get better.
That’s what being a parent is all about!
